art is only the beginning...
Affordable Art Fair features artists and galleries from around the world. Great way to attract visitors. They go way beyond an art show.
Supporting Materials for Arts, Thursday 6 - 8, new / gently used art supply donations for free general admission. This is one aspect I love, helping the community. Friday: Olly Olly Market features a drag show. Family activities Saturday / Sunday is another great aspect. They want everyone to experience the amazing art creations. Make sure all ages enjoy the fair. You never know, your child may find something they love! Add City Arts and a Fellowship Program are only some of the highlights / how Affordable Art Fair proves every word on the website.
Of course, main focus in on artists / galleries / their creations and selling art. With prices ranging from $100 to several thousand, this proves the "Affordable" part. Even in the current economy, you may find a way to treat yourself. Hey you work hard and deserve it. Every fair, I could drop a few grand easily.
Speaking of... Almost every genre you can think of (abstract, contemporary, landscapes, photography to name a few). My main highlights: Art Bond NY / Art Pantheon / Camp Z / Signet Contemporary Art. This is just from scrolling down the list. What I am hoping for in this area: A few cutting edge / redefining every aspect of any genre.
Leading to the main part: Admission. Thinking about 1 day? $35. Bringing the kids (I would recommend)? Honestly, previous fairs, I observed a lot of families: $60 (1 day). Seriously considering entire weekend or multiple days? Go for the All Access ($85), plan on attending the preview night. Hey, take advantage of the perks. I realize money is tight for everyone right now. They make a serious attempt at appealing to everyone's budget.
Serious tip: I have covered a lot of art fairs / galleries / exhibits. Plan on spending at least 2 hours here. Even if you have been to previous fairs. Spring was the first fair at Scarrett-Lehigh Building. Figured 1 1/2 hours, not a problem. 3 hours later... finally left. The new location provides excellent views of the Hudson River / more light / open space. Need a short break? Cafe at the fair / food beverages main floor.
Another tip: Don't like crowds? Planning on the weekend? Arrive early on Saturday or go Sunday.
Overall, is Affordable Art Fair New York City worth your time / money? Definite yes. Again, I realize the budget is tight for most people. Educational side, experiencing what artists around the world are capable of creating. If you have a family, giving the kids / young adults a unique experience. Maybe encouraging their creative side. Just taking a break from life / stress combine to make Affordable Art Fair a unique and true experience.
