Anime NYC is so much more than a con / event. Going way beyond the usual / norm (celebrities / artist alley / panels / discussions).
I remember 2024 my 1st experience including Javits Center. Artist Alley alone you almost need Google Maps (or remember landmarks...). Size alone makes this a 2-day event, especially if you are trying for full experience. For the first time, looking at the website alone can be a little overwhelming. A few reasons to check it out, even if you are not into Anime.
As of this article, 4-day passes / Saturday, sold out. Never been here, maybe a good thing. When I attended 2024 on a Saturday, was glad to have several comic-cons as experience. Thursday or Sunday would be your best bet. $65 (Thurs) / $78 (Friday / Sunday) may appear a little too much for your budget. Seriously, this is one experience definitely worth it!!!!
How does Anime NYC go way beyond?
Programming schedule alone makes this a 2-day event for you at the very least. 2024, I tried to do everything on a Saturday, yeah right! great theory. Between artists / vendors / walking around it was entire day.
Partnering with local businesses, you can find some discounts on other attractions in the city. Honestly, major points when an event incorporates the local community. Encourages you to go beyond the walls and experience the city / town.
Official Afterparties every night. In a major city, kind of a given here. From experience at other events, afterparties are a great way to wind down. Plus, you can have conversations with exhibitors / vendors / attendees in a more relaxed atmosphere.
One major, important aspect I don't want to forget. Anime NYC is very educational. 2024 I learned a lot about Japanese and other cultures while attending. Not just the Anime / Cosplay / Manga side. How the cultures influence even animation / creators in U.S. and other countries. Keep it short, ask questions, let the mind be open.
Speaking educational / cultural: Japanese Food Court!!! Can't wait to experience true Japanese Ramen again. 1st time? Japan Parade 2024, I was hooked.
In all seriousness, Anime NYC is worth your time and money every / any year. Yes, prices may seem high and out of your budget. It is like that with any major event. I just came off 9 out of 10 at Musikfest (10 day long major music festival / Bethlehem, Pa.). Dropped a few hundred on food / beverages. Remember, operating costs continue to rise fast. Behind the scenes for everyone (especially vendors / artists / etc.) include fuel, promotional materials, time. Everyone needs to make a profit, otherwise, these events could not happen. Best personal example is Musikfest, yes, I dropped a lot of money. Was it worth every second / penny? 100% definitely. 2024, dropped some cash at Anime NYC, was it worth the money? 100% definitely.
If you can't make it in 2026, seriously plan to attend Anime NYC in 2027. I would suggest 2 days, especially if it is your first time. Some events are worth it for the experience / memories; Anime NYC is one of them.
