Every year Franklin Square hosts the Chinese Lantern Festival. Every year it is different and better. 2024 seriously surprised me. Review is from a day visit.
During the day, it is free. Ok, you don't get to see it lit up, nothing going on (dancers / Chinese food / etc.). It is still worth your time. Not everyone who visits Philadelphia can be there at night, reason for this review.
Each entrance to Franklin Square is different. Definitely want to spend some time here walking around. Hidden surprises are waiting off the main walkways. 50-foot dragon is always impressive, only the beginning. This year, a beehive / huge pagoda and more will capture your attention and wonder. Fountain show every half hour (throughout the year) you will love. Make sure the kids have a chance to ride the carousel. Trust me, the min-golf is definitely worth it. When you visit, think about how every creation is hand-made. Philadelphia is a city of many cultures; Chinese Lantern Festival celebrates their contributions to the city and our country.
