Jack Cooper Stimpson’s magical realist film SPIRIT OF PLACE starring Mark Rylance qualifies for the 97th Academy® Awards
Jack Cooper Stimpson’s lyrical short SPIRIT OF PLACE is a beautiful meditation on nature, identity and wellington boots. The story follows two young adults, Athel and Edward, as they escape to the wetlands for some much needed respite from life in the city, but when Athel discovers an ancient artifact in the water, she is forced to re-examine her entire relationship with the place she loves. The story touches on access to nature and how these habitats develop our self-growth and discovery. Also starring Mark Rylance, the short was executive produced by the conservation organization On the Edge and made in association with the wetland conservation charity WWT (Wildfowl and Wetland Trust). The film hopes to inspire and engage audiences, whilst also encouraging them to explore these underrepresented eco-systems. It has qualified for the 2025 Oscars®.
