Free Spirit gypsy
Pretty much sums up lead singer of Joy and the Wildfire; at least, with her full band. Experienced her acoustic show at Plaza Tropical. Teasing a completely different experience with her band did not even come close. Not only was this beyond a 180 degree, it was almost like a different person performing!
Joy and her band take us on a carefully guided emotional journey / at times, rollercoaster. Encouraging the crowd to dance / move / feel any emotion a song hits. With most Musikfest crowds, especially closing out Main St. (8:30 - 10:30 p.m.) definitely a challenge. Honestly, watching crowd frequently, at least a few she did connect with on this level. Personal side, I remember one song did bring back memories / 1 or 2 emotions thought I could no longer feel. Connecting with the crowd in other ways: clapping during a song perfect example.
Curious about the Free Spirit Gypsy part? Moments during the show, she let the music take over. Stepping off the stage with a tambourine, letting emotion become a part of the music / movements. Before I forget...
Joy and the Wildfire not only immersed with movement / visible emotion. Most important part: music / vocals / lyrics. Moments of creating raw emotion easily visible in Joy's face. Guiding through the full spectrum from memories long buried to the moment we are in. Emotional highs / lows of life and experience / everything in between.
Most important: The band's performance reminds us never be afraid to live / feel alive / take every chance we can.
