Books are only the beginning of this festival

Lehigh Valley Book Festival is more than I anticipated. Just talking about Bethlehem Library part of it. After checking out press release, very impressed with the festival spread out to different locations (Example: historic Shankweiler's Drive-In). Highlighting more than usual tourist traps / attractions. Definitely wanted to check out main event at library.

Outside, authors / creators, felt like I was at Lehigh Valley Comic-Con / Fan Expo Philadelphia. Major compliments already! Checking out press release multiple times 2nd major bonus. Walking in, main room: Author / creator panels, book signings, a chance to check out a new book. Maybe... get back to reading with something catching your attention (personal experience). The festival is also for families / kids. Checking out 2nd floor: arts / crafts hosted by authors. One aspect I look for: interactivity. Making you feel a part of event vs. only watching / being there.

Unfortunately, could not attend Closing Keynote (Cedar Crest College) on Sunday. This part was definitely on interactive side. Ending with attendees creating art then having cut into bookmarks.

Book Swap / Dating Game / interactive closing / main event feeling like a major comic / fan convention / showing you different parts of the Lehigh Valley.

Lehigh Valley Book Festival is for more than book readers / fans. Great chance to experience parts of the area you might not know about. Plus, meet new people, authors / maybe check out a book catches your attention. The festival on an extremely short list of Lehigh Valley events I would recommend to people in Manhattan / NYC. Honestly, highest compliments I could give. In case you were wondering, people were definitely buying books / having them signed! Never have time to read, picked up a copy of This Raging Sea (De Elizabeth), started to read it same night.

Main recommendation (can see both sides): Panels / book signings were in same room, simultaneously. It drew a great crowd with room almost packed at times. Drawback: trying to hear the speakers while having a quick conversation with author. Realizing Bethlehem Library has very limited space for events, a way to somehow separate them. Timeframe was down to the minute with guests. Speaking with an employee of The End bookstore, they tried a few things, didn't attract crowd of this style / format. Unfortunately, every idea I had would backfire.

Lehigh Valley Book Festival is A MAIN example of what conventions / expos (comic / fan / horror / etc.) should be. Not necessarily focusing on larger venues. Highlighting local area, community, businesses. Giving people experiences they will remember for a very long time.
