Showing Lehigh valley true power of los angeles / philadelphia rock!!!!!
Velvet Rouge helped launch FireCity Illusion with an on-street interview / NYC. They introduced me to the raw power of Philadelphia indie rock bands. Now bi-coastal (Philadelphia / Los Angeles), they have taken everything to a level not imagined.
In a previous review, I mentioned they re-invent the rock genre. Velvet Rouge taught me pretty much every Philly indie rock band does that. By re-inventing the genre, they have raw power, passion, energy and intensity. You don't watch / listen to a performance, you experience / feel it.
Starting with founder / lead singer / guitarist Zo. This was one drawback to performing at the Flying V. The band, especially Zo needs a large stage. She even joked around about not jumping due to low ceiling (literally). The band doesn't get lost in the music; they get caught up in the energy of it. All over a stage, somehow, they pulled it off at The Flying V. I have reviewed a lot of bands. Too many stand in one spot or move only a little. Velvet Rouge uses every square inch.
I know, what about the songs? Velvet Rouge's originals surprise you at every turn and minute. Right when you seriously start moving / rocking they might 180 / back it off / hit it hard again. That is one of my favorite aspects of their songs / performances. Forcing you to experience the true, raw power and passion of a genre that has become diluted. Views / followers / numbers are more important than music / performances.
Velvet Rouge doesn't remind us of the past / what the Rock genre was about (starting in a garage...). They lead new generations teaching us what is possible. Combining how music, especially rock, can make us feel / remember with a very real and promising future.
