2023 Mummers Parade closes out Holiday Edition. Growing up watching it on TV, completely different experience in person (1st time). Thankfully, temps held in 40's - 50's for most of the day!
Special Thank You to Philadelphia Police Officers making it a safe experience for everyone!!!!!
Weird / wild / different best way to describe it.
- Weird: Gaps in parade. I could understand around 5-minute mark due to judging. At one point, appeared parade was over (over 15-minute gap). Walked entire parade route. TV was from city hall / judging about 1 block away. Gaps were really noticeable farther down. Conversations with several people, including a few who have been to the parade before. No one could explain / understand it. Plus-side to shorter gaps: great chance for photos in middle of South Broad!
- Wild: Rush / excitement of crowd. Great conversations with people / Philadelphia Police Officers. Learning New Year's Day the city shows it knows how to party, in a cool / safe way. Found out about other part of parade: Party on Two (2nd street) later in / after parade.
- Different: Even inquired about parade / front desk / Element Hotel. Learned parade is not typical (floats / bands / participants) parade. Honestly, don't remember term used. 2023 parade was seriously unique from any other parade I attended / covered.
3 days later, still smiling about the experience. A few moments, it seems unreal to have been there. Mummers Parade was part of one of the best New Year's in my life. Definitely the best in 16 years. Scroll down for photos / videos / video review.
The other most popular complaint: not nearly enough portable restrooms. Completely agree on this one also.
