wawa welcome america festival
1st event for 2023 Wawa Welcome America Festival. With obvious exception of 2020, covered it since 2016 (Surreal ValeCity). World Refugee Day part of Our America Now was about refugees to this country. It reminded me an entire world built / evolved the United States. Immigrants / refugees from every nationality / skin color / belief / etc. have come here. Not only seeking a better life, to be a part of this experiment. Basically, how this country started / depending on point of view still happens.
Organizations supporting immigrants / refugees from various countries were glad to answer questions. Stopped by an Afghan organization / had a great conversation. In addition, wide variety of entertainment on main stage. Weather was perfect, especially for final spring day. Dancers / poets / musicians from different cultures / countries / backgrounds gave us a brief glimpse into their lives.
2nd stage for speakers (Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kennedy about how Philadelphia is Welcoming City). Food trucks for anyone hungry (Rita's Italian Ice premiered a new flavor).
With the fountain going strong / ping pong tables constantly active / live entertainment / a chance to learn about refugees / immigrants, World Refugee was a definite success.
