icebox project space
Finding out about the 20/92 Video Festival, definitely on high priority list. One of 2 events on this Philadelphia trip. 2nd visit to Icebox Project Space (located in an old industrial building). Covered a film festival in Lehigh Valley several years ago. Checked website before trip, definitely interesting lineup.
Icebox Project Space is a great place to experience art of any kind. Large room with wall perfect for different formats / sizes of video. What about the films?
1 day later 3 words describe them: Experimental / different / interesting.
Somewhat familiar with indie films, including shorts, had a vague idea what to expect. 20/92 Video Festival was nowhere close to previous experiences.
With exception of Metamorphosis (Charles Edward Birkhead) / In Excess: Excerpt (Melissa Langer), each film provided a new experience / different perspective. Honestly, I didn't understand several films. Enjoyed each one, creative process always interests me.
Metamorphosis takes us on the journey of evolution. Using simple designs (morphing / changing), Charles reminds us about complexity evolving from what appears simple. 1 day later, reminded me of one important question. How will the tree (humans / next step) evolve from here?
In Excess: Excerpt / I am 51, Melissa used video clips from 6ABC reports. I remember reporter and topic about garbage strike. Even remembered videos she used.
Don't get me wrong, each film was excellent! Every creator presenting unique work including: autobiographical / a few had political, societal messages / comedy and more. Each creator showed their specific area / genre of excellence and strengths.
Another word to describe the film festival: cutting edge. Thinking back... each film highlighted a new / different perspective on the genre / film creation. Overall, 20/92 Video Festival is easily worth your time. Admission is free with no rsvp / time slot reservation required. If you are like me and try to understand / figure out each film, definitely grab the program. Don't be afraid to ask questions with people at reception area. If possible, attend closing reception.
In case you are wondering: You can view all the films in one time slot.
