The Hole NYC
Experiencing a few exhibits at The Hole, AI Paintings was not what I expected. Scanned press release. Definitely caught my attention here. Maybe I have been spoiled by a few interactive exhibits / galleries, always look for the modern edge: AI Paintings is that and more!
When you stop by, make sure to read bio / info on the wall, serious surprise here (no spoilers). Had a chance to speak with woman at desk about exhibit. Matthew Stone is a very unique artist. Serious combination of physical (what I call traditional) art and modern tech.
On technical side of exhibit (layout), having a lot of space around each creation is perfect! You need to spend time looking at every work (you will need it). Stone's work goes beyond abstract, honestly my first reaction: "This is seriously fucked up!" Don't let that dissuade you from checking it out.
Always a fan of abstract, had to take my own advice, stop at each work / look at from different angles (mentally). Matthew Stone seriously nails down our modern world / society. To a point, forces us to stop and look ourselves on a deeper level and from different angles (especially outside-in). The chaotic / at times appearing out of control world / society / lives we are constantly exposed to. How that chaos affects / changes us. Stepping back / taking time / looking on a deeper level, we see individual components and beauty. How every level / angle merges to create that chaos.
AI Paintings is definitely an exhibit to experience. Like I said, you need to spend time here. Definitely view the exhibit with an open mind. The Hole is a great gallery where you can view the outside world and escape it at the same time. Perfect place for AI Paintings exhibit.
