Bela
Intro video: Over 24 hours later, still gives me chills. Bela went off stage / joined by Alex and Katie (opening musician) for an emotional break. 2nd video below, you can easily see how song affected everyone there, including myself. I don't remember having this experience at a live show. Or way crowd reacted. FYI: a few thousand reviews over 11 years. Loved music since July 4, 1976 (don't ask how I remember). Main reason Bela's performance the best (outside of Musikfest 2023) in over 1 year.
katie hazdovac (opening performance)
Have to mention Katie's opening performance. One song and I immediately wanted more. Vocals / guitar were exceptional. Way she commanded the stage / immediately drew crowd attention to her performance. Seriously looking forward to experiencing / reviewing one of Katie's full shows. Very high on priority list.
Back to Bela...
2nd reason for best performance in over 1 year: above video. Duet was perfect in vocals / performance. Reminded me of watching Meatloaf performing Paradise by the Dashboard... / Life is a Lemon. I really don't like doing comparisons. The timing on lyrics and movements thought is was well-rehearsed. Turned out I was wrong.
Another reason: Way band had full attention of crowd. Looking down throughout show, not one person even looked at a phone. Everyone's attention was always on band / music.
Bela's performance had a serious way of making the audience a part of performance. Instead of singing / playing at crowd, it had a "performing for friends / you are an important part of this experience" effect. Even Bela's tone when talking with crowd had that same feel.
Winding out review: 1st time band performed together. Like the duet, could not tell. Music / vocals / performance of band playing together for years. I loved the added use of laptop. Reading show description, Bela exceeded all expectations. Surprises? Definite in best way possible.
Even when I am not reviewing a performance, it is more than just music / lyrics. Even though those parts were excellent, overall experience went way above excellent! Definitely added to "even if not reviewing, need to experience again" list.
