Bethlehem, PA is called "The Christmas City". While not being a public humiliation like 2021, it has a long way to go before that is just a title. Mid-November submitted interview request to Mayor Reynold's office / zero response about holiday season. A few possibilities: Questions were above his intellect level. He feared them. He fears ArtsQuest. He only supports easy questions asked by corporate media.
After attending the tree lighting ceremony (event time: 5 - 6 p.m. / tree lit by 5:23 p.m. / Damn! missed it! They need to realize some people have day jobs!!!!! Plus, traffic and lack of green arrow turning at Broad and Main).
I call Bethlehem "Lack of Christmas City". Main St. was beautifully lit up this year. Vendor huts were way too spread out with most at the far end and a few almost out of sight. Vendor Huts were always a main attraction. Christkindlmarkt is another story / review. It gets worse...
A few events happen on Main St during the holiday season: Live Advent Calendar (Dec. 1 - 23) / Christmas Putz starting Thanksgiving weekend (highly recommend). A graveyard has more for the holidays than Sun Inn Courtyard (not joking).
Don't want to forget about discrimination against those of Pagan beliefs during holiday season. Nativity / menorah (during Hanukkah) on display at Payrow Plaza. No mention of Yule / Winter Solstice which most Christmas traditions are based on. City Government / Mayor have zero problem with prejudice based on beliefs / religion.
Did mention something to a member of the chamber. Excuse: Hopefully in the future! How many years / millennia do you need? Bethlehem was truly The Christmas City before ArtsQuest was handed everything. It has the potential for being so much more during the holiday season. Good luck giving ideas to people in charge (city officials / chamber / downtown association).
Overall: Bethlehem is worth a visit during the holiday season. Don't have high or even mid-level expectations. Scroll down for photos / 3-part video review. Video proves the review / statements.
