Chairman Williams Issues Statement on New Cost of Regulations
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Small Business, issued the following statement regarding the new cost of regulations issued by the Biden Administration.
“Nearly every week, without fail, this Administration finds new ways to hamper businesses across America,” said Chairman Williams. “The fact that there was $875 billion in new costs from final rules issued in one week is hard to fathom, even for this President. This Administration has repeatedly shown that they do not consider the best interests of business owners when making their rules and regulations. I hope President Biden will hear the message that businesses are struggling, that these rules only make matters worse, and repeal them so they can begin to thrive again.”
Background:
The regulatory cost from last week alone nearly matches the total cost of the entire Obama Administration. In 2024 alone, the total cost of final rules sits at $926.3 billion, with another $34.4 billion in proposed costs. Compared to the Trump Administration at the same point, the Biden Administration’s regulatory cost is over 45 times higher. The major contributor to this week’s final rule costs comes from the EPA’s $870 billion rule on “Multi-Pollutant Emissions Standards for Model Years 2027 and Later Light-Duty and Medium-Duty Vehicles.”
