Corinne Mammana
Last minute decision, literally. Ticket purchased at noon / concert at 3. Needed a live music fix plus Corinne's Christmas EP Release concert would be perfect for holiday edition. The show proved to be a perfect slow-down during the holiday season. Slow-down meaning still in holiday spirit / mood. Taking time to relax / enjoy every part of it. Even remember the most important aspects (personal preferences here). Lighting was perfect: red / green / lowered to set mood.
Main music highlights: 2nd set. Blending "Carol of the Bells / We Three Kings" was perfect. Couldn't tell when one started and next began. "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" completely unexpected comedic break. "O Holy Night" is where Corinne seriously showed the true power of her voice. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas": Closed my eyes / saw my wife at Christmas / Old friends. Corinne performed it perfectly.
Format: 2 sets / 10-minute break. It appeared planned that set 1 focused on music / backstory / history of some songs. Important note here: Before Corinne performed one of her originals, she proved to be a true performer. She paused for a moment in the backstory / was not afraid to show the true emotion involved with writing it. 2nd set mainly focused on the music. It worked perfectly.
In future Christmas concerts, would love to see what Corinne can do with more modern songs (Trans-Siberian Orchestra / Faith Hill for examples). Start of the show Corinne mentioned songs on EP were her favorites. Honestly, the classics can get old / stale / done to death by everyone. Personally, I am a more modern holiday music person ("She's Coming Home this Christmas Day / TSR and "Where are you Christmas / Faith Hill my 2 favs). Realize it can be very challenging, would love to see more holiday originals from this very talented artist.
Due to last minute decision, did not have time to inquire about photos.
Important note: Corinne Mammana's Christmas Concert is the final Lehigh Valley music review for FireCity Illusion. Focus is on Philadelphia / New York / other cities.
Quick credential background: Michael Phoenix has experienced / reviewed hundreds of musical artists from local level to major recording artists. Founded / Staffed blog and 3 independent media outlets.
