Humilitarian
Humilitarian hit the stage at 9 p.m. By this point, good luck moving through the crowd. Found out about them through another Philadelphia band Velvet Rouge (social media posts). After 4 months of no live, original rock music (or non-original) Humilitarian helped quench my withdrawl!!! Hey, grew up in 70's / 80's. Checked their bio on Rockwood Music Hall's site: Garage band / played at Philadelphia bars / clubs. Already on the top priority list for this NYC visit, those words sealed it for me. Humilitarian did not disappoint in the slightest.
FireCity originally started as a simple blog doing live music reviews. Developed a criteria with A Valley and Beyond (1st official media). Velvet Rouge's performance (right before Humilitarian) made me realize something. Humilitarian drove home the point to a major extent!!!!
Humilitarian is a band that not only makes you hear the music. They also make you feel the music / lyrics / performance. Kind of hard to describe, here is a vague idea. When you are moving to the music / lyrics without even realizing it. When, to a point, everything around you disappears. When you forget about the alcohol (or drink in general) / how people might see you moving (your version of dancing). Your head is bouncing (formerly known as head banging) without realizing it.
This is the effect Humilitarian had on me. From the first note to last, like my favorite band Velvet Rouge, redefine / recreate an entire genre of music: Rock! Combining a "This is who we are, you will ROCK with us" attitude / drumbeats penetrating every part of your existence / guitars making you feel the true power / passion of the Rock genre / Vocals and lyrics taking us to new levels with power / passion / "from the street" attitude.
Humilitarian will remind you of an important music lesson. Real music comes from personal experiences / true love and passion for creating something that will effect others. Even making a difference in people's lives (Toy Soldiers / Martika, Fast Car / Tracy Chapman, countless more).
Humilitarian is on my very short list of "Must experience in person!". You get an idea of listening / watching them online. Live is where you experience / feel (see above) their true power / passion / something that can't quite be described.
Before I forget, at end of their show. Made my way through the crowd (somehow) and spoke with lead singer, Kira Capello. Had to compliment and tip the band. Noticed she wasn't afraid to get down with the crowd (another huge plus with me). Kira mentioned about feedback, she does that on occasion.
Regardless of what music genre you love / enjoy. If you want to experience an excellent / wild performance, Humilitarian needs to be on your shortlist of bands.
Quick history: Michael Phoenix (owner / staff) has reviewed a few hundred (at least) bands / musicians / performances. Ranging from Lehigh Valley local cover to Daughtrey / 3Doors Down and more. 1 simple blog / 3 indie media outlets.
