Levitt pavilion
Launching 2023 concert series looking at a huge rusting piece of metal. I know the history (grew up in LV).
In the category of "What the FUCK were they thinking????":
Saw an old friend and his wife that agreed with me on this point. You are launching a multi-season concert series. Of course, they would choose an acoustic singer / songwriter to kick it off. Instead of a high energy artist / band (I can think of several in a few seconds). Topping it off, Melody had a 6 cover / 2 original beginning. Why not highlight the pathetic joke Lehigh Valley music scene with cover songs? Melody is an excellent singer / songwriter who is at her best with a full band. Definitely wrong choice for this event.
Pushing it even farther: Last speaker made a point to state: "Over 50% of performers are female. Over 50% of performers are persons of color." Because everyone is too stupid to realize this when checking out their social media / website. I am fucking tired of politics / the society we live in taking over every aspect of life. Especially with music and the arts! I was considering covering one or two. Not after that brain-dead idiot.
On the plus side: Look forward to an excellent lineup / experience. Ignore the rusting hulk of metal backdrop. Highlighting a company that almost took down Bethlehem / to a point Lehigh Valley. Variety was clearly important. Including taking some wild chances with bands / genres.
I am curious how many music reviewers are on selection committee, especially people who review out of area.
