Lulu Mac
Note: Due to time band started / running it tight as of showtime. Unfortunately, only had 25 minutes to experience performance. Hoping for a future experience for full show.
Stopped by The Bowery Electric with time to kill. Checked band playing on main floor. Always love live music. Never turn down a review. Stage area next to bar is very small (30 people push limits). Still great to experience a band / musician.
Catching me off guard, Lulu Mac started the set with acapella. Immediately catching crowd's attention. Mixing covers with originals / wide vocal range / each member showing their musical strengths was a mid-level highlight.
Main point for me is something a lot of bands / musicians overlook: getting crowd involved. Each member of the band was paying attention to how crowd reacted, even during the songs. One song, Felice (lead) taught the crowd part of the chorus. During song, crowd was dead on! Not only responding to applause between songs, making everyone a part of the show / experience.
I hate comparing one band to another (really hate it), exception here. Lulu Mac makes me immediately think of En Vogue (stage presence / music / reasons can't quite explain).
Before I forget: Guitarist was truly amazing. Not only playing, switching between a laptop. Creating music for every song with zero mistakes.
A performance showing years of experience, these NYU students are in a major category. Proving the future of music, in every area, very promising.
