complete waste of time
All I can say is Fucking Seriously!?!?!? If there is a way to fuck something up, Allentown will find / invent it. New Year's Eve celebration main example. For all the promotion / illusions / flat out lies / bragging about downtown Allentown, NYE celebration was seriously lacking in every area.
Made huge mistake changed Philadelphia plans.
Restaurants had great deals: food / champagne toasts / music. Different prices gave most people a great chance to go inside / warm up. Personal choice: Blended / $20 all you can eat buffet champagne toast DJ easily worth it.
Outside, official, celebration: average DJ / very few announcements to get crowd into the moment. Zero artists or vendors / things to do (example: curling / games for kids). Realizing security was high with plain clothes walking around. Honestly, constantly scanned crowd and concern for personal safety. Large trucks were blocking off intersections. Apparently, city could not afford more uniformed officers present. Increasing visible level of safety. Especially with recent shootings in city. Welcome to Allentown!
Approaching midnight:
Fairly large crowd gathered despite 42-degree (felt like low 30's) temps. Honestly / Seriously, credit for unique object drop. Lehigh Valley Phantoms (Philadelphia Flyers minor league team), huge hockey puck drop! Sounds of fireworks, people setting off around Lehigh Valley. I think digital show on side of building 1/2 block away. No official fireworks lighting up the night / welcoming in 2024.
Raised the glass at midnight to the last New Year's Eve I will celebrating in Lehigh Valley with a serious smile.
If you are in the Lehigh Valley New Year's Eve, Allentown's celebration is the finale to a very disappointing / underwhelming holiday season here. Go to an actual city / avoid this small town.
