First time @ New York Coffee Festival. Honestly, first time at an event this unique. Advance article did not prepare for everything at the festival. New York Coffee Festival offers a great education in coffee overall. Yes, you can sample a wide variety of coffees (blends mainly). Seriously, stopped after 6 (including 2 coffee cocktails). Thought caffeine tolerance was very high, yeah right!!!!! My experience with coffee? Wawa: Mocha Wakeup or French Vanilla. What can I say, not used to "real" "true" coffee. Yeah, within 2 hours caffeine levels off the charts. Loved different blends / flavors.
The education experience ranged from wide variety of vendors / blends. Interactive experience, barista competition, lab (workshops) enhanced this aspect greatly. All vendors were happy to answer questions / receive feedback. Live music / art / Latte Live were also serious highlights. Latte live was very cool. Never thought about the true art form of coffee. Like I said: Wawa. Even though lived in NC for over 8 years, didn't know coffee was grown in Durham.
Was curious about value. Before I covered festival, purchased a 3-hour session. Honestly / very serious: Definitely worth the $54 (Session price / coffee cocktail token / processing fee). Should have upgraded to VIP... Taking a break, had conversation with a woman outside. Informed about experience so far. Think she purchased VIP for Sunday.
Another aspect: all proceeds benefitted Project Waterfall. You are helping coffee growers around the world.
The New York Coffee Festival is on list to definitely attend in 2023 (Definite VIP / Upgrade). Even though not really into coffee, unique experience / education / fun / variety all contribute to decision. Forgot to mention: observed families / people with kids there. Definitely for everyone.
Tip: Like most major events on weekend: If attending on Saturday, arrive early. I love a huge crowd. navigation was a little difficult at times. Sensory experience: long line by 1 p.m.
