new york coffee festival
Quick Tour
Review
Coffee? Yes! So much more? Definitely!!!!!
2nd year covering New York Coffee Festival. When I plan / hope to cover an event regularly (more than once), always look forward to see how it evolves. This year, more floor space 1st thing I noticed. 2022, festival was on 2 floors. Honestly, tight to move in spots (even when crowd lightened up). 2023: The Lab / Sensory Experience moved to floor 5. Definitely a great idea!
In preview article / from last years' experience, tip: arrive early if at all possible. Doors opened at 9:30 a.m. (Saturday). 2nd tip: purchase day pass / VIP or 2 sessions. Walking around to check everything out, 11:30 before I realized it. Plus: you seriously need to check out Sensory Experience. Arriving early helps avoid long line here. Speaking of Sensory Experience...
1st time for this aspect. Sensory Experience challenges all of your senses and combines chocolate with coffee. Aromatic Wake Up: Smelling 6 coffees / writing down what you sense. Not as obvious as it appears. Trace Your Path: This one may not make sense at first. How about tasting a chocolate, then coffee. Rubbing your fingers on sandpaper and velvet? Yes, it will affect how your taste buds perceive. Part I remember most? Taste Modality. I remember Sound 1 and chocolate tasting salty while listening.
The Lab? Panel Discussions / demonstrations. Attended "Getting into coffee industry. Panel with Q&A from audience. A great way to learn and take a break / sit down.
Coffee Music Project: Music is always on top priority list. Wide range of musicians in different genres.
Coffee Art Project: Wall with art dedicated to coffee! I know, kind of obvious. Check photos for how artists interpret this wide topic.
What you probably are most interested in: Coffee!!! and Tea / Matcha. Seriously, I gave people a laugh about this. Lost track on amount of samples I had. Walking down 7th Avenue: "I am high off caffeine..." Tip: Make sure you eat something before arriving. OR support food vendors at festival. Was planning on it, too much coffee. Variety of coffee producers / machines / teas / Matchas from around the globe. Even if you have a favorite type, almost guaranteed you WILL try something new. Yes, I do have a favorite from the festival. Sorry, not giving it away. Hint: New York City coffee shop. It was something I never heard of.
What is a festival without coffee cocktails? Smirnoff / Bailey's / Tia Maria some examples. You could purchase a token online for more than a sample / full version from Smirnoff. For full experience, I did have a sample from each one.
Before I forget, something very important: Security. A security team very visible, not intrusive made sure everyone had a safe and excellent experience.
Overall: For 2nd year, I had conversations with people in Lehigh Valley about the festival, highly recommended it. Even if you prefer Dunkin / Starbucks / Wawa, New York Coffee Festival Needs to be in your top 5 events for next year. Family friendly (I did see parents with kids) / excellent balance and variety (music / art / coffee / food / education / interactive / Latte Art Live). I did spend some money for people I know on coffee / tea.
New York Coffee Festival is in top 5 events for FireCity Illusion between NYC / Philadelphia. Already looking forward to see how it evolves in 2024.
