Newfest
Found about NewFest on social media. Usual: checked website / applied for credentials to cover it. Due to personal / professional beliefs, I see people for WHO we are, nothing more. Example: seriously don't care about straight / gay / skin color / beliefs / etc. LGBTQ aspect did not factor into decision / curiosity.
What does factor into decision? Films caught my attention. Organization celebrating 35 years. Growing up in 80's, NewFest started in response to AIDS. Time for interesting part: about the film festival...
NewFest is split into 2 segments: In-person / Online (virtual). This has become a great concept, especially for film festivals. Travel is getting expensive / busy lives always a factor. Seriously, nothing can top an in-person experience. Covered both this year, experience with advantages. Serious points for NewFest here.
Expecting only a few categories and a lot of documentaries, checked out categories, major surprise! 2 that completely caught me off guard: Raunchy / Unhinged. Personally: sci-fi / fantasy / psychological horror fan. Love a good movie regardless of genre / category. Scanning films by date...
All the Fires (Oct. 12): How many films even mention the word pyromaniac? Combine with personal journey / self-discovery, could go either way (great or terrible).
Almamula: Appealing to my love of fantasy / psychological horror.
Shorts: Frisky Friday Espisodics: Old saying: "sex sells"
These are only top of my list. Too many times, especially with Allentown Film Festival / Tribeca Film Festival (online) I was completely caught off guard with a film that didn't make the top priority list. Regardless, NewFest will have at least a few films you will enjoy. Going off brief descriptions: make you think / educational / view life, society, world in a different perspective. A few may force you to see things from a completely opposite perspective.
Price: Honestly, especially if you are on a tight budget, go virtual. Considering everything included, in-person is worth it.
Before I forget, love they way festival is spread out over the city, not one location.
