Playcrafting
Play NYC is one of the top 5 events for any media I own every year. When the event is over, can't wait to see how it evolves / changes next year. Very special Thank You to security / staff / volunteers / developers / sponsors / Playcrafting for making this an incredible event!
Why should you go, even if not into gaming? Play NYC offers education as well. Remember, while games are entertaining, there are other benefits. Growing up in the 80's: improved hand / eye coordination. They can teach about evolution and AI (Cell to Singularity). Game simulations can give us a more realistic view of different careers (medical / law enforcement / etc.). Plus, a few genres provide excellent stress relief!
Playcrafting creates a different reality at Play NYC. Seriously, every year, when I step outside: "There IS a physical reality out here." This year, everyone created a very high level of energy. It was like a daylong adrenaline rush. Trying not to miss any developers, play demos, photos, social media posts, you get the idea. Thankfully, Coca-Cola and Red Bull were major sponsors and present. You definitely needed that recharge at times.
Indie game developers (tabletop and video) were eager to have conversations. Every right to show off their creations. Genres? Almost every one you could think of. Styles? Card (tabletop / video) / side scrolling / Virtual Reality / 3rd person / first person to name a few.
Everyone involved with Playcrafting seriously shows how much they appreciate everyone involved / attending the event. Security is one of the top priorities, standing one the edges / bag checks / providing safety without interfering with everyone having a great time. Feedback from developers was excellent. Even those exhibiting for the 1st time were impressed. An industry lounge provided a break (much needed at times).
Play NYC is 1 of 2 events I look forward to starting day after it is over. Playcrafting continues to find ways of changing / evolving it while keeping the core concepts. A balance very hard to achieve. Can't wait to experience it next year! Scroll down for video review / photos / video clips.
