Short version:
Remembering Rachel Ana Dobken's performances at Musikfest 2023 (acoustic / full band), expecting a high energy, Rock genre recreating show. Yeah, great theory and wishful thinking here. Don't take this in the wrong way. Honestly, what I needed on Saturday. Scroll down for photos / videos / video review.
Here is where Rachel and the band proved something difficult for several. They pay attention to the crowd and know how to adapt. Not only during their performance, before walking on stage. 1st time for me at Live in the Garden (Rose Garden / Bethlehem, PA). 2 1/2 hours I was there, not sure how many people cared about the music. How many were there to have a great time, relax, forget about life and socialize. In other words, tough crowd to read. Instead of creating high energy / power / emotion, Rachel toned it down for a more spring / summer fun evening. Despite temps seriously dropping and feeling like very early spring... Show was on May 11, 2024.
Rachel delivered a nice surprise from start to finish. 1st 2 songs solo / bringing up each band member with a new song. Slowly building towards finale. I loved this highlighting each member / her powerful and incredible solo capabilities. Like Musikfest, Rachel doubled up on electric guitar and drums. Pulling both off perfectly.
To give you an idea of the show on my priority list. Originally planned to cover a few things in Philadelphia. When I saw they were at Live in the Garden, decided to gamble on weather Sunday to experience them again. It is an extremely short list (maybe 5 or 6 indie bands) I will change Philadelphia or New York City plans for.
Even with colder temps and an unexpected performance, worth every second!!!! I mentioned the slow build to finale. Rachel and the band seriously showed the true power / emotion of Rock music here. I am not talking about lyrics / vocals. The raw combination of electric guitar / bass / drums made you feel something. Extremely serious here: not only psychologically throughout every molecule of your existence.
