The Hole Bowery / New York city
Re-Spawn is a different kind of exhibit. Not being true interactive, it does take you into a different world. Blurring the lines of physical / virtual / gaming realities. Artist, Matthew Zefeldt, takes an older video game (Grand Theft Auto V) and shows us how lines are blurred.
Layout of exhibit does lend to interactive style. Floor leading to main image while balancing with physical reality (walls between). Helping shut out city and outside world. Drawing us into the game / overall theme.
Checking out individual works / thinking about exhibit overall: Re-Spawn makes interesting point about lines being blurred. Combine with movie Ready Player 1, how we can take life for granted. Expanding: at some point in the future, even in present (certain aspects), we may not think of death as a finality. "Hey, if someone dies, they can just reset". I realize this may be stretching overall theme of exhibit a lot. But, we have almost become immune to death through media / social media / games / virtual reality. It almost tricks us in a different mindset.
Re-Spawn, blurring lines, does make us think about how people / society are in the present. Makes us question directions for the future.
