Honestly, can't remember when I had time to read a book, especially print. Purchased this one from Frank at Allentown Fair 2022 (I think). Great conversation and love to support other indie creators (I am also an indie author).
The title may be a little deceptive, but you will figure out connection during the book. Even though Shiny Little Things falls more into the Young Adult category, adults will find it hard to put down.
Frank takes everyday objects (Cherub / Gargoyle statues in this case), brings them to life in modern society. As story progresses, you can easily tell Frank did serious research into each side. Cherubs appearing to be the "good side" / gargoyles opposite. Then again, nothing is as it appears...
Author's Note / beginning: Frank gives younger generations (before internet / modern games / e-books / etc.) a brief history lesson. Personally: born in '71 and remember pre-video game era.
Main human characters: Rusty / Skeeter / Alexandria / Mr. McGheezer. Great job introducing each character. Specific point / reason for timing of their appearance. Giving us enough background to grab attention / interest without boring details. Mr. McGheezer I found most interesting / real sympathy for at the end.
Pacing of book / story. Frank maintains a steady pace during entire story. At times, almost whiplashing our emotions. Carefully placing twists and surprises at right moments to improve immersion in characters / story.
Seriously, while reading had attitude: maybe 10 pages tonight or 1 chapter. By chapter 4, didn't want to stop.
Overall: Balance / character development / immersion factor, Frank does an excellent job. Only downside: last 2 paragraphs, kind of predictable.
