south 9th street italian market
2nd time at Italian Market Festival. Starting off with Procession of Saints (another review), better than remembered! Nature provided a PERFECT Spring Day!!!!!
Procession ended at Washington St. Blessing officially kicked off day 2. Festival is 2 days, attended on Sunday. In addition to food, festival does not disappoint in any area. Scroll down for photos / short video tour / live music sample.
3 stages with bands and DJ (as I walked through) set a great spring festival mood. The Country did a great job getting the crowd involved. Cornhole (game formerly known as beanbags) competitions, could not find through crowd. Other events rounded out a great time. Emphasis one on competition that is true and only Philadelphia...
Grease Pole Climbing! But seriously, if you have seen any headlines about Philadelphia sports teams winning or making to a championship, they grease poles so people can't climb them. Like I said, true Philadelphia style! The crowd was packed to the point where you could barely move through it here. Due to restaurant reservation, couldn't stick around to experience. Something for next year!
One aspect on top of my list: Festival did not need high alcohol sales to be successful. On the alcohol part: Social drinker. One I have to try next year: pina colada in an actual pineapple. Live in Lehigh Valley, PA area and almost every festival / most events require high alcohol sales to be successful. Loved not seeing over half the crowd with beer / mixed drinks / wine walking around. Seriously added to safety side of festival. Special Thanks to Philadelphia Police officers for walking around and making everyone feel safe.
This is a great festival to experience at least one time. Food / great live entertainment / competitions / arts and crafts from local artists / much more all contribute to my return next year. Might even take a break and experience / enjoy it without article. Like that is possible... Tip: You might want to plan at least a few hours. Between crowd / food / local shops / competitions / overall experience.
