The HOle
You can read a brief description of what Title IX is when you walk into gallery. Above image was included for specific reasons (later). Have not visited The Hole Bowery part of exhibit as of this review. Tribeca part was interesting in consideration with theme. Other than video (back of gallery / interesting visual effects), didn't really connect exhibit with theme. Rare for me, usually not a problem. Exhibit made me think about how women strive for equality. In sports, there is still a long way to go. The square with baseball seriously hit this point.
Risk of stating obvious: Men's baseball is obscenely popular, even in other countries. While Women's softball you rarely hear about. Certain sports, exhibit made me think why there are 2 categories. Example: Tennis, men and women could easily compete against each other. I know, they do, mixed doubles. I am talking about singles competition. Other sports, basketball example, I can see the biological reasons (height of men vs. women). Although, small size has advantages...
Exhibit also made me think about transgender controversy. No, you won't get my opinion here; very hard to hold it back.
Reasons for lead image: 1) Realism. Both in creation and something that is so minor. Could either be embarrassing if noticed and brought to forefront. Or leading into reason 2) Sexuality in sports. Yes it does happen. Sometimes, required uniforms of men and women highlight this point. Tennis uniforms might be more revealing for women. Swimsuits show a man topless while not women (I know, reasons obvious).
This exhibit not only points out the female side. Depending on how you think about it, highlights how different men and women are treated in sports from all sides.
Realize I did not mention other gender(s) / gender choices. That is for another article and editorial in archives. With exception of editorials / opinions, FireCity Illusion maintains a strict polity of neutrality / unbiased.
