Tshibaka statement on Biden administration blocking energy production in NPRA

Picture
On the heels of a multi-day trip to Alaska by Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, the Biden administration has just blocked energy production in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska. Haaland had been welcomed to Alaska by Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who cast the tie-breaking vote to advance Haaland’s nomination to final confirmation, and it’s notable that the administration waited to announce the news until after Haaland had left the state.

Alaska Republican U.S. Senate candidate Kelly Tshibaka today issued the following statement:

“Joe Biden sent Deb Haaland to Alaska to provide cover for Lisa Murkowski because she’s one of his best allies in Washington and one of his favorite senators. They even waited to announce the news until after Haaland was gone and Murkowski was safely away from reporters.

“This is yet another case where Murkowski’s actions have directly harmed Alaska. Her tie-breaking vote to advance the confirmation of Haaland put her in position to destroy our economy, kill our energy jobs, and make it harder for our children to find employment without leaving home.

“At a time when gas prices are historically high, inflation is out of control, and we are reliant on foreign sources of oil, taking billions of barrels of our own oil off the table is just about the dumbest thing anyone could do. But Joe Biden and Deb Haaland are doing it, and Murkowski is their enabler.”
