THE WORLD GAMES ATHLETE OF APRIL 2023: MARTIN LABRA
Congratulations to Martin Labra from Chile, The World Games Athlete of the Month for April 2023.

Picture
In his home country Chile, Martin Labra has managed to set a new U17 trick world record in Waterskiing. And he collected 12,060 points during his performance at the Torneo Nacional Mirandaski Open on Lago Los Morros in Chile. At the end of February, the 17-year-old presented himself in top form. He set his record not in the U17 class, by the way, but in the Open category.

On 7th April, the IWWF officially confirmed the world record. He is also the current World Under-17 Overall record holder and 2022 IWWF World Under-17 Jump & Overall champion.

Already at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, USA, Martin Labra represented his country at the Waterskiing competitions. In the Trick Ski competition, the talent finished in sixth place. At 17, he was not the youngest athlete from his country at TWG 2022. Carolina Silva, competing in the Canoe Marathon in Birmingham, is fully eight days younger.

Waterskiing is also on the programme for the 2025 Games in Chengdu, People's Republic of China. This was announced on Wednesday, 3rd May. Martin Labra has more than a little hope of competing for Chile again, and maybe he will come home as The World Games Champion.
