Definitely not what I expected. The show quickly evolved from something simple to a weird combination of improv / jam session. Val rotated singers / musicians throughout. Surprise factor in musicians / singers and songs greatly improved experience. Honestly, not sure what overall genre they performed. Recognized a little blues, other than that, just enjoyed it.
When I check out a singer / musician / band, always look for more than the music. Maybe due to a few thousand reviews in over 11 years. Show me what you are really capable of. Even on a small stage, get creative and use it. Show me through your playing / singing / emotions you feel the music / lyrics. Make me feel them. Have a conversation with the crowd vs. announcing a few songs. I think you get the idea.
