Icebox project space
Quick history: Attended / covered a few hundred exhibits / openings (1 blog / 4 media / 10 years / Lehigh Valley / Philadelphia / NYC). Will never be anywhere close to expert on art. Could not even tell you different categories beyond abstract. Volumes was definitely a 1st!
Advanced warning about video clip: if strobe / flashing lights bother you in any way, do not watch.
Found out about Volumes scanning social media. Curiosity very high. Overnight trip to Philadelphia / Uber to Gallery. No idea what I was about to experience. For 1st time, photos would not do the trick. Scroll down for video sample. Experience is the ONLY word for it.
Walking in, people sitting on chairs along walls / on floor. Columns of LED lights arranged in room. Drums in front. Ok, this will be unique. Sat down along right wall. Intro / brief explanation / lights out / drums and light show!
Volumes is so much more than art / science / combination. 1st performance (Kaleen Reading). Chaotic with rhythm / purpose. Intermission, honestly, needed. readjust eyes / mentality. 2nd performance (Karen Smith / Sunny Dee). Seriously, at points: eyes open / swear I was blinking. Overall: it was more than experience. 3 drummers created a new reality / beginning with birth of a universe. Audience merged with this new genesis / evolved with every beat, light flash.
