Xenia Dunford
Rockwood Music Hall on the list for 2 bands later in evening. Wanted a 3rd live music review. Scrolling down the list, Xenia Dunford seriously caught my attention. Had to split time between here and another event. Xenia's bio reason for making review list.
Seriously needing a fix of live / original / rock music, Xenia completely caught me off guard. Love acoustic and singer / songwriters. Xenia goes beyond both. Lyrics and music personal and life experience. Ok, a lot of singers / songwriters do that. Xenia forces us to see the importance of everyday and sometimes mundane experiences. Powerful voice pulling and at times, almost seducing, us into each story and song.
Another main highlight: Xenia makes the audience part of her performance without moving from the stage. At one point, switching to guitar, she mentioned not playing in a while. Having a conversation with the audience. Xenia wants the audience to experience a real performance. Yes, she gives it her very best. The conversation part / storytelling / switching between instruments (proving exactly how talented she is) and more. The "real" part? Example: A mistake she admitted to and everyone laughed. Xenia does not strive to have one show exactly as the next. Wanting to give everyone a unique experience they will remember.
