xponential music festival
Did not receive credentials for this one. Reason for no photos / videos. Review is based on personal experience. Dropped almost $120.00 between WXPN membership / early pricing on 3-day pass. Honestly, to experience Velvet Rouge (serious fan) was the reason. Was it worth it?
Could not attend until Sunday. Festival had to deal with the 1 thing no one can control: weather. Friday was perfect: sunny / not too hot. Saturday / Sunday? Tropical storm up the coast. Xponential was not cancelled. Scheduling became a very serious challenge for everyone involved.
It was very clear from social media posts, organizers and bands were trying their absolute best. I was keeping close track of weather / updates on Saturday (gauging how things may go Sunday). Very curious how these challenges would be handled.
Main complaint: Updates were released too late. Example: Velvet Rouge posted on their social media Saturday night: Unfortunately, due to weather, cancelled. Xponential's update: Sunday morning after 9:30. Gates open time Sat. / Sun: Noon. Update posted about delayed entry: after 10 Sunday morning. 10:10 a.m. bus to Philadelphia due to Velvet Rouge's update. Almost didn't go due to weather. Spent the money, might as well go for a few hours, hopefully.
2nd main complaint: Very little shelter. Realize everything costs money. Ticket sales / sponsorship are main incomes for this festival. 30 years you would think they would have been prepared for anything. Hate to say it, completely honest, getting completely soaked added to experience.
Realize they did everything possible to make everything happen, especially music. 2023 was their 30th year. Weather forecasts predicted this at least a few days in advance. There is no reason for how late their updates appeared or e-mailed. People travelled from serious distances to attend this. Not everyone stayed at a hotel in Camden / Philadelphia.
Everyone involved did their very best to make sure every attendee was safe and having best possible service experience. Joked with a few volunteers / staff. A few announcements were made about band start time. Every effort was made to maintain schedule.
To answer the "Was it Worth It" question: Total time there 3 hours. Approximate money spent (including food): $130.00. Definitely. For some reason, downpour added that extra aspect to make this festival unique. Great conversations with other attendees contributing factor. Will I be attending next year? Depends on weather / bands / # of days I can make it.
